Influences and Inspiration

My artwork is defined by the bright colours that I use. During the painting process I find that I need to try to maximise the colour effects of my paintings by the use of related and complementary colours. I try to make my paintings "glow" with colour. My work includes many large scale flower still lives, set against single colour backgrounds, chosen precisely so that I could use the most vibrant colours possible

Influences include the Impressionists, Post Impressionists and the Fauves, particularly Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse, Derain, Cezanne; also Klimt, Picasso and Braque. Abstract artists include Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko.

Contemporary artists I admire include Wolf Kahn, Jeroen Krabbe, Howard Hodgkin and David Hockney.

I have art works in private collections in Europe and the US.
